Library

In 2004, the wish to create a library within the BCL has been carried out after a year’s hard work. Thanks to the cooperation of the National Library ("Bibliothèque nationale de Luxembourg" - BNL), the BCL has now joined the network of Luxembourg libraries and uses the Aleph program for library administration. Everybody - at home, at work or in the library itself - can consult the index of the network’s publications via the Internet. The search engine incorporated in the Aleph program is very powerful. The library of the BCL now contains up to more than 9000 publications, of which one - daily increasing - part is keyboarded in the Aleph data-base.

To consult the publications available, readers should go to the BNL’s homepage (www.bnl.lu) and insert the search criteria (author, subject, title...). The Aleph program then selects the documents available within the network of the Luxembourg libraries and indicates their precise location. The publication can be within the BNL, or at any other library of the network, in which case, special steps of consultation or loan apply. Research can also be undertaken with a filter, through which only the publications located within the BCL (site "BCLU") will be listed, in so far as they are already indexed in the Aleph data-base.

The publications of the library of the BCL mainly refer to economy and law. The agents of the BCL mainly use economic information, in particular bulletins, studies, reports, statistics, reviews etc., on a daily basis. The collection includes publications edited by international organisations (World Bank, IMF, OECD, BIS, European Commission...), but also documentation of National Central Banks. Documentation on monetary, financial, economic and legal affairs of the euro zone prevails. The collection grants a special selection of Luxembourg publications (legislation, statistics, reviews, studies) and in particular of economic and legal specificities of the money market of Luxembourg. Current developments, exchanges and the open-mindedness characteristic of the BCL also made it possible to constitute important documentary resources concerning the 12 new countries of the European Union and, more generally, about all countries throughout the world.

The collection of the library also includes non-economic publications, such as, for instance art, architecture or history books offered to the BCL. The library also holds a growing number of CD-Roms (specialised reviews, studies, statistics, laws...)

The library is open to the public on preliminary request by e-mail (bibliotheque@bcl.lu) or by fax (+352 4774 4910). The librarians will assist visitors where necessary. For any information, do not hesitate to call +352 4774 4104 (between 9h00 and 12h00).
