Pursuant to the law of 23 December 1998, the Bank places in circulation banknotes and coins in euros.
Since the signing in the year 2003 of an amendment to the agreement regarding the financial relations between the Luxembourg State and the BCL, the BCL has taken over the minting of euro coins. Before the introduction of the euro, the Bank was providing monetary signs in Luxembourg and Belgian francs to the public and to financial institutions.
