The BCL is in charge of the production and distribution of banknotes and coins in a quantity and quality required for the good functioning of payment channels.

As an issuing authority, the Bank attends to the respect of the regulations regarding banknote reproduction.

Since July 2002, the BCL is in charge of collecting and analysing counterfeits which are detected in Luxembourg.

The Bank handles the exchange of banknotes and coins and offers since 2002 numismatic products.

Since its foundation, the Bank keeps all the banknotes and coins, whether issued or projected, for its historic record.
