Questions about the Banque centrale du Luxembourg

1. What are the opening hours of the BCL counters ?

8.30 - 12.15 am and 1.30 - 4.00 pm, on all opening days.

2. Is it possible to visit the BCL ?

Except for public counters and the hall, which are open to the public, it is not possble to visit the BCL. Sometimes, however, the BCL organises art exhibitions in its hall.

3. Is the BCL the State's Bank ?

No, because the BCL is not, for example, in charge of the State’s debt service, of collecting tax payments or of paying the salaries of civil servants. From a legal point of view, the BCL is specifically forbidden to grant an overdraft or a loan to the State.

4. Is it possible to open an account at the BCL ?

No. In general, it opens accounts only to monetary and financial institutions, but it is not a commercial bank. Thus, it is not possible for an individual to open an account or to ask for a loan.
