At the occasion of the euro’s 20th anniversary, the Banque centrale du Luxembourg (BCL) will open the doors of its headquarters, located at 2, boulevard Royal, to the public on 15 June starting at 10 a.m.

Open Doors Programme

The lobby and 1st floor of the historic BCL headquarters will be accessible from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

The public will have the opportunity to learn about the Bank's European and national missions through information panels and short educational films.

The Governor of the BCL, Mr. Gaston Reinesch, will answer questions from visitors between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.

Visitors will also be able to discover the very rich history of Luxembourg's money thanks to an exceptional exhibition covering the period ranging from John the Blind up to the banknotes issued by the Institut Monétaire Luxembourgeois. Banknotes used in other countries before the introduction of the euro (Deutschmark, French franc, Italian lira, etc.), will also be on display.

Also, the workshop on the security features of euro banknotes will allow visitors to discover those security features that are not visible to the naked eye, by using specific equipment. In this context, the processing of banknotes and coins at the BCL will also be explained.

From 10:00 a.m., the "Euro Wheel" game will allow the luckiest to win many prizes throughout the day. A space especially dedicated to children will allow the youngest to get acquainted with money in a playful way.

A bouncy castle and food trucks will be installed on the front square to allow the public to eat and have a good time with their families.

The diversity of the programme will allow everyone to take part in the celebrations.

And, since there is no birthday without cake, everyone will be able to taste the giant birthday cake especially prepared for the occasion. At noon, the first slice will be cut, after which visitors will be able to help themselves to a piece of cake and discover lucky charms that will allow them to win numismatic coins, including gold coins!

You are welcome to join us!

For security reasons, please note that visitors (adults and children alike) will have to present valid identification in order to access the building and the BCL front square.
