Regulatory Reporting

The BCL is in charge of the collection of data, the compilation of monetary and financial statistics, the balance of payments and the international investment position as well as statistics relative to payment systems and instruments.

The relevant data for the compilation of monetary and financial statistics are directly collected from banks, money market funds, investment funds, securitisation vehicles and insurance corporations. These institutions are subject to the regulations of the European Central Bank, which are published in BCL circulars communicated directly to the banks, money market funds, investment funds, securisation vehicles and insurance corporations.

The BCL and the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques du Grand-Duché de Luxembourg (STATEC, the national statistical institute of Luxembourg) are jointly in charge of establishing the balance of payments. The BCL is in charge of establishing the international investment position for Luxembourg. The BCL is in charge of the compilation of the international investment position of Luxembourg.

In this context the BCL collects statistical data from banks, the financial services of POST Luxembourg and financial companies. The collection of relevant data for compiling the balance of payments and the international investment position is based on regulations of the Banque centrale du Luxembourg.

The data collection on payment instruments and operations is based on a BCL regulation.
It applies to entities active in the area of payments, currently comprised of credit institutions, payment institutions, e-money institutions, technical agents and market infrastructures.
