Upcoming launch of the 7th "Generation €uro Students' Award" school competition

30.09.2019

For the seventh consecutive year, the Banque centrale du Luxembourg (BCL) is joining forces with other central banks of the Eurosystem to organise the "Generation €uro Students' Award" school competition. The BCL has already distributed to high schools, through the Ministry of National Education, the brochure for teachers, promotional flyers and the poster promoting the competition.

The "Generation €uro" competition is open to secondary students aged 16 to 19 studying economics in Luxembourg. Teams of three to five students supervised by a "coach" teacher can participate to the competition. Entries for the competition are made online on the competition website: www.generationeuro.eu. The competition is also open to European and international schools in Luxembourg. That is why any team can participate in English or French.

Once registered, teams will be able to take part in the first stage, an online quiz with 30 questions that will be available until 24 November 2019 on the competition site. The best teams from this event will qualify for the second stage, where teams will have until 22 January 2020 to propose in writing a monetary policy decision based on an analysis of the economic and monetary situation in the euro area. The top three teams from this second round will be invited for the finals in March 2020 (exact date to be confirmed), where they will be asked to explain to a jury of experts from the central bank the reasons underpinning their new monetary policy decision.

All students taking part in the finals of the "Generation €uro" competition will be awarded a prize and a certificate of achievement. Finally, the winning team will participate in a two-day trip to Frankfurt to attend a European awards ceremony at the European Central Bank alongside the winning teams from the other participating countries.

The English-speaking information meeting about the "Generation €uro" competition will be hosted by the BCL, at its Didactic Center, 43, avenue Monterey, in Luxembourg. This meeting will take place on Tuesday, 8 October at 2:00 p.m.

For organisational reasons, teachers and students interested in attending this meeting should register by sending an email to generationeuro@bcl.lu by 7 October at the latest. If you are unable to attend this meeting, but are interested in receiving information on the organisation of the competition, please do not hesitate to contact the competition organising team at the same address.
