Evolution of credit institutions’ balance sheet

The Banque centrale du Luxembourg informs that, based on preliminary data, the aggregated balance sheet of credit institutions reached 984 310 million euros on 30 June 2025, compared to 967 805 million euros on 31 May 2025, an increase of 1.71%.

On the assets side, this increase is mostly due to the monthly increase of loans to other banks and deposit-taking corporations. On the liabilities side, it is due to deposits from the other sectors. On an annual basis, the aggregated balance sheet increased by 3.71%.

Net interbank lending, i.e. the difference between interbank loans and deposits, increased by 2 933 million euros, or 1.24%, to reach 239 641 million euros at the end of June 2025.

Loans to resident non-bank customers increased by 1 756 million euros, or 1.54%, between May 2025 and June 2025. Over twelve months, these loans have increased by 2 845 million euros, or 2.52%.

On a yearly basis, loans to non-financial corporations (NFCs) decreased by 3 701 million euros (or 14.02%), loans for house purchases increased by 1 225 million euros 2.98% and loans to other financial intermediaries (OFIs) increased by 6 017 million euros (or 15.9%).

With regard to the liability side, deposits from the resident non-bank sector have progressed by 3 021 million euros, or 0.98%, between May 2025 and June 2025. Over twelve months, these deposits increased by 19 823 million euros, or 6.81%.

Between June 2024 and June 2025, Other financial intermediaries (OFI) deposits (which had a share of 67.9% as at 30 June 2025 and comprised deposits made up by monetary and non-monetary investment funds) increased by 14 354 million euros (or 7.29%) and household deposits progressed by 2 373 million euros (or 5.11%). NFC deposits increased by 2 592 million euros (or 10.92%) and deposits from the other sectors1 progressed by 504 million euros (or 2.1%).
