Advice in case of counterfeit detection

  • Do not accept a suspicious note as payment and explain that you are not sure whether it is genuine.
  • Politely ask for another note and treat the customer as a possible victim, and not as an offender. Do not put yourself at risk. Immediately inform the police and/or your internal security about the incident. Note as much information as possible.
  • If you suspect that you have accepted a counterfeit, do not pass it on to someone else, as this is a criminal offence. Give the suspicious note to the police, to your bank or to the Banque centrale du Luxembourg and, if it is genuine you will get it back.
  • If you need more information, please contact the Banque centrale du Luxembourg
