Evolution of credit institutions’ balance sheet

The Banque centrale du Luxembourg informs that, based on preliminary data, the aggregated balance sheet of credit institutions reached 1 008 992 million euros on 30 November 2025, compared to 1 003 289 million euros on 31 October 2025, an increase of 0.57%.

On the assets side, this increase is due mostly to the other assets. On the liabilities side, this increase is due to the other liabilities. On an annual basis, the aggregated balance sheet increased by 3.78%.

Net interbank lending, i.e. the difference between interbank loans and deposits, decreased by 4 703 million euros, or 2.09%, to reach 220 484 million euros at the end of November 2025.

Loans to resident non-bank customers increased by 173 million euros, or 0.14%, between October 2025 and November 2025. Over twelve months, these loans have increased by 6 977 million euros, or 6.18%.

On a yearly basis, loans to non-financial corporations (NFCs) decreased by 734 million euros (or 3.03%), loans for house purchases increased by 1 376 million euros 3.35% and loans to other financial intermediaries (OFIs) increased by 6 276 million euros (or 15.49%).

With regard to the liability side, deposits from the resident non-bank sector have retracted by 4 446 million euros, or 1.41%, between October 2025 and November 2025. Over twelve months, these deposits increased by 19 754 million euros, or 6.79%.

Between November 2024 and November 2025, Other financial intermediaries (OFI) deposits (which had a share of 68.01% as at 30 November 2025 and comprised deposits made up by monetary and non-monetary investment funds) increased by 16 744 million euros (or 8.6%) and household deposits progressed by 2 061 million euros (or 4.39%). NFC deposits decreased by 178 million euros (or 0.72%) and deposits from the other sectors[1] progressed by 1 126 million euros (or 4.55%).
