Evolution of credit institutions’ balance sheet
The Banque centrale du Luxembourg informs that, based on preliminary data, the aggregated balance sheet of credit institutions reached 981 560 million euros on 31 December 2025, compared to 1 008 993 million euros on 30 November 2025, a decrease of 2.72%.
On the assets side, this decrease is due mainly on loans to deposit taking corporations. On the liabilities side, it is due to the decrease on deposits from deposit taking corporations and other sectors. On an annual basis, the aggregated balance sheet increased by 2.49%.

Net interbank lending, i.e. the difference between interbank loans and deposits, decreased by 5 385 million euros, or 2.44%, to reach 215 100 million euros at the end of December 2025.
Loans to resident non-bank customers decreased by 1 236 million euros, or 1.03%, between November 2025 and December 2025. Over twelve months, these loans have increased by 6 154 million euros, or 5.47%.

On a yearly basis, loans to non-financial corporations (NFCs) decreased by 613 million euros (or 2.60%), loans for house purchases increased by 1 274 million euros 3.07% and loans to other financial intermediaries (OFIs) increased by 5 439 million euros (or 13.44%).
With regard to the liability side, deposits from the resident non-bank sector have retracted by 8 250 million euros, or 2.65%, between November 2025 and December 2025. Over twelve months, these deposits increased by 13 741 million euros, or 4.76%.

Between December 2024 and December 2025, Other financial intermediaries (OFI) deposits (which had a share of 67.3% as at 31 décembre 2025 and comprised deposits made up by monetary and non-monetary investment funds) increased by 12 490 million euros (or 6.54%) and household deposits progressed by 2 242 million euros (or 4.72%). NFC deposits decreased by 1 310 million euros (or 5.2%) and deposits from the other sectors[1] progressed by 319 million euros (or 1.28%).
