First Commemorative 2 euro coin for Luxembourg

The Central Bank of Luxembourg (BCL) is putting into circulation a 2 euro commemorative coin, dedicated to the Grand Ducal dynasty.

The coin has the following characteristics:

  • The obverse bears the effigy of His Royal Highness the Grand Duke Henri and his monogram “H�?, surmounted by the Grand Ducal crown. A circular inscription “HENRI – Grand-Duc de Luxembourg�? surrounds the effigy and the monogram, with an indication of the issuing state “LËTZEBUERG�? and the year 2004.
  • The reverse of the coin is common to all 2 euro coins.

The coin is legal tender in the euro area as from the day of its publication in the Official Journal of the European Union.

The BCL will sell at the price of 8 euros a coin card in an edition of 10 000 units, individually numbered and containing the said coin in BU quality. The coin card and the new 2004 euro coins will be available at the counters[1] of the BCL as from 26 July 2004 at the usual rates.
